A Podcast About Art & Mental Health

Kim talks with The Artist Entrepreneur host, Catherine Orer, about artist mental health.

Episode 032 - Taking care of your mental health

I like to say that in another life, I would have been a wildlife biologist. I eventually decided painting wildlife was more my style (fewer mosquitoes). Like many artists, I began painting as a child. During this interview that I did with The Artist Entreneur host, Catherine Orer, I share how for almost twenty years, I didn’t so much as look at a sheet of drawing paper. But, after searching for an outlet to manage the trauma caused by several painful life events, I went back to the one thing that felt most natural to me: art.

Many people, especially outside the art world, think that being an artist is smooth sailing; that isn’t exactly true for many. Today’s episode will encourage you to prioritize your mental health because, without a healthy mind, it’s almost impossible to have a healthy art business.

Conversation Highlights:

  • Why it’s ok if that you’re not a full-time artist (yet).

  • How social media can become a source of stress, and what you can do about it.

  • Why you are responsible for creating your own “mental health toolbox”.

PLUS: There’s nothing wrong with you if you are struggling with your mental health. You deserve to be healthy!
