A Hip Flexors Best-Friend
Are we tired of hips yet? Hell no! If warrior poses too much for you include a yoga lunge in your practice to show love to your hip flexors.
Low lunge or Anjaneyasana with arms overhead
A low lunge with or without lifted arms feels juicy. Use padding under the back shin in the way of a folded blanket to take pressure off the knee (not shown). The more you can keep the pelvis neutral the more you'll safely improve the mobility of your hips.
Low lunge or Anjaneyasana with blocks
Is a low lunge with arms overhead too intense? A low lunge with props might be the answer. Use wooden blocks to help you keep the spine straight and to avoid overstretching the back muscles.Prop tip: Does your knee get sore when you lunge? Use a folded blanket under the back shin and ankle (not shown) to take the pressure off the knee. #bliss
Reverse Lunge
A reverse lunge is the perfect post-run, ride, or desk move. Include it regularly in your yoga practice to increase your flexibility in the backs of the legs and to increase how well you can bend purely at the hips. (Fore cyclists, can you see you're in a roadie position in this pose?)The key is the bend purely at the hips and keep the back straight. That means YOU!Prop tip: if the blocks are too low that they cause you to round your back use chairs instead. Knee pain? Add padding under the shin and ankle of the back leg. Aim to have the weight in front of the kneecap (bottom of front of the thigh), not on the kneecap. Any questions? Ask it on Facebook Page or Instagram.
