In this 3-week class, a follow-up to the popular Intro to Cold Wax course, Layer By Layer: Cold Wax Mixed Media will teach you how to create mixed media paintings using cold wax—it’s the bee's knees! 

In this class, you’ll experiment with making paint layers of velvety colors and transparent glazes, and carve, scrape, push, and pull the medium to create cool effects. You’ll practice adding and removing wax from layers and learn impasto, reduction, and sgraffito techniques.

Tools like pallet knives, brayers, silicon blades, and wedges will be used to make unique surfaces; materials like oil pastels, graphite, and charcoal will be options to add colour and interest; and stencils, bubble wrap, sponges, and tissue paper will give your pieces texture. Cold wax collage will also be part of the fun.

At the end of the class, you will have:

• Learnt the do’s and don’ts of using cold wax medium

• Gained the knowledge about materials and techniques to start your own practice

• Completed a painting to take home with you

• Become fanatical about cold wax painting

Whether it’s your first or 100th time painting with cold wax, this class is for you. No experience necessary. All levels welcomed.
