Windshield-Wipers-blog.jpg

An easy twist for a lazy night

Today's #YogaTherapyTip is called 'Windshield Wipers'.  Gentle on the spine this pose is a prep for more advanced reclined twists. Consider it making love to your spine.Set-up:

  • Lay on your back on the floor.  Find neutral spine.
  • Prop option: Use support like thinly folded blankets under the head, neck, low back, and pelvis if needed to get rid of strain ad to increase the coziness.
  • Bend your knees, plant your feet on the floor, take your knees wider than hip-width, and rotate your legs so your toes point our to 45 degrees.
  • Arms: lay them next to you in a "V" or overhead like in the photos.  No need to keep your arms straight, your shoulders should feel happy.
  • Gently and slowly twist from side to side.  As you twist, move from the spine, not the hips.  Your feet should stay in the same place as you move.  Feel your naval twist back towards the ceiling.
  • Alternate 5x per side. Move from position to position like it's shown in the photos below.
